Y’all know around here we like to keep movin’, so inneractive FITCLUB has joined the national ehem ‘movement’ to get folks motivated at the beginning of the week. Cleveryly named The Monday Campaigns.

The Monday Campaigns is a national movement backed by leading public health schools that dedicates the first day of every week to health. Every Monday, individuals and organizations join together to commit to healthy behaviors that help end chronic preventable diseases.

Anything that includes movin’ is a friend of  inneractive FITCLUB!

Why Monday? It’s the January of the week, the perfect time for a fresh start. People are more likely to begin exercising, start a diet or quit smoking on Monday than any other day. It’s a call to action built into every calendar – offering 52 chances a year to live a longer, healthier life.

So we’re changin’ the ho-hum dread of Mondays around here and starting a wave of T.G.I.M (Thank God It’s Monday) cuz that means we get a fresh start! here’s a few of the ideas for T.G.I.M.

The Kids Cook Monday initiative encourages families to set aside the first night of every week for cooking and eating together as a family. The Kids Cook Monday provides examples of family friendly recipes and video demonstrations along with a free starter family dinner toolkit- making it easy for families to cook and eat together every Monday.

Going meatless once a week may reduce your risk of chronic preventable conditions like cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. It can also help reduce your carbon footprint and save precious resources like fresh water and fossil fuel. Meatless Monday is a non-profit initiative of The Monday Campaigns, in association with the Johns Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health. We provide the information and recipes you need to start each week with healthy, environmentally friendly meat-free alternatives.

Fresh Pineapple Salsa!

The tropical flavors of pineapple and lime combine with red onion, cilantro and serrano pepper for a salsa that’s great with grilled pork, skirt steak, shrimp or tofu. It’s also delicious with tortilla chips or spooned over tacos. For the best flavor, make at least 30 minutes ahead of time to allow the flavors to mingle.

Ingredients

2 cups diced fresh pineapple 1/2 cup chopped cilantro 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion 1 serrano pepper, stemmed,

seeded and finely chopped Juice and zest of 1 lime 1/8 teaspoon sea salt Directions

Toss all ingredients together in a large bowl. Serve immediately or cover and chill until ready to use. Nutrition—Makes about 2 cups Per serving (1/4 cup): 25 calories, 2g total fat, 0g saturated fat, 0g protein, 6g total carbohydrate (1g dietary fiber, 4g sugar), 40mg sodium
