30 Day FOCUS: Travel plans

Wow it’s December and the count down to Christmas has already begun.

Man, New Year’s Eve is literally around the corner and I swear it feels like we were just listening to my Pastor’s message on putting God first.

That message has literally directed my every thought, every word, every consideration.

ESPECIALLY in those moments I wanted to pitch a fit and scream I QUIT!

I have continually reminded myself; not monthly, but I’m talking hourly, minute by minute, and at times it felt like every second.

Seek Him first, and all these things He’ll add to you.

Discipline. Focus on the FIRST not the things.

But knowing He literally was working on His plan (Jeremiah 29) kept my FOCUS & kept me in the fight.

FIRST. I set about making my goals for 2013 and “where I wanted to go/be”; when distractions (like that joy thief called comparison) tried to get the best of me, when I adjusted my focus to be ANCHORED; He still reminded me, FIRST.

Every plan. Every purpose. Every promise.

Anchored? FIRST.

Every thought.

Every consideration.

Every appointment.

Every desire.

Every goal.

Every set.

Every rep.

Every meal.

Every measurement.

Every THING. (Matthew 6:25-33 all those things)

  • To get where I wanted to be, I had to first know where I was coming from. I was not focused on it but at least accepted that’s what I was giving Him permission to lead me away from.
  • Know where I was going.
  • Who & what was leading me.
  • What were my motives.
  • What was my ultimate FOCUS.

It all came back to FIRST.

I heard this message from Christine Caine and thought it might bless your day. It’s really on knowing where you’re going and who’s going with you.

See I’ve wanted to take a trip with my girls for a LOOOOONG time. But I think I made the wrong plans because we seem to never get there.

This 30 day FOCUS is helping me to realize something, before we decide it’s time to plan a trip, first we need to make sure we know where we’re going.

Where are you going?

Stuck in the middle

What’s in it? that’s the question I hear most from my family, friends & anyone I give recommendations or has asked my advice concerning new recipes or food.

They’re usually wanting to know if I was playing sneaky chef and hid some superfood ingredient & tried to pass it as chocolate drizzle.

Or they’re asking ‘what’s in it for me’; translation exactly what are you expecting me to do, for how long and how much is this gonna cost me?

On one hand I applaud the investigation but then I can’t help but consider that we want to know so much about every single second that we miss out on the true element of “watch what happens”.

We start fitness challenges & healthy eating wanting to know when, where, why, how much, why not, what about, with who & what for…then we make or break the deal with the proverbial when will it happen

What happened to enjoying the process? Being in the moment & enjoying it? Our minds get so focused on when we started & when we’ll end that we forget about right now. Or on the reverse end we get so focused on right now we become anxious about the end result.

Matthew 6{which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life…
do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ ..
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need…}

I’ve been working on patience. Man it’s been slow. Go figure. The biggest lesson I learned, I heard it at church, just magnify The Lord while you’re in it.

Magnify the opportunities not the problems

What have you been magnifying? When we magnify something it doesn’t cause that thing to get bigger, it just changes the way we’re seeing it.

So what seems to have gotten bigger in your life?

This song always shines a light on those things I’ve been magnifying.

Bonus Challenge: SLOW DOWN

My Pastor told me a few weeks ago that the speed bumps are there to slow me down, not as an inconvenience but as a safety precaution.

Our greatest opportunities for growth

Moments of breakthrough are not where life’s greatest transformation happens; the stuff that God uses to shape us often lies in the in-between. It’s the bus stops and layovers and DMV lines and moments of unintentional pause that force us to become better people.

Are you in the middle? Ok maybe it doesn’t feel like a happy sweet middle like the center filling of an Oreo cookie, but more like the marrow of a bone! Dry and seemingly useless…til you realize; that marrow is the life of the bone.

Allow God to keep you there, He’s perfecting you. He has the ability to breathe life into those bones & dry places. (Ezekiel)

What’s your middle? We’d love to know how this post helped you. Comment below.

Question from one of my fitness/business mentors:
“Do you mind sharing what you did to make this happen”:

My response (from my heart):
“I just truly stopped trying to be someone else. I’ve been praying hard about who I am and living so that my truest self shows up, no matter where I am. I’m learning that I’m not one person as a fitness instructor and another person in my ‘personal life’. I am who I am. I can’t turn something on for one group of people then claim to ‘turn it off’ for another. I stopped trying to please people and focused on pleasing God.

At the beginning of the year I decided I was putting First Things First; that meant God first, everything else was second…including my plans. I figured if God wants it in my life, He’ll see to it that it happens. And here we are!

Thanks to my fitness/business mentors for the push! {Jenn Hall, Christine Dwyer, Chalene Johnson, Kelly Olexa}

I soooo appreciate my Pastor for holding us accountable! We’ve gotta hold each other accountable on EVERYTHING (spirit, soul, body, finances & relationships) my pastor calls those the arenas of life.  Arena-because that’s where battles are fought! And won!”

When you put your faith in God, raise your expectation!

Monday motivation: movin’ forward

“Repeat anything often enough and it will start to become you.”
—Tom Hopkins

If it means that I’ll have an entire workout wardrobe reminding me of who I am, so be it! Maybe someone coming toward me will be moved toward greatness!

What does greatness look like to you? I started doing some self care studying and almost automatically God began putting things in front of me to show me how “great” my life was. So I stayed there, with that “theme”. I prayed for my eyes to be opened to see the awesome I already had. And again “greatness” started happening, some was simply uncovered, some untapped and a little more given.

Here’s your challenge this week, commit yourself to a specific “theme”. Everyday do 1 thing that moves you toward defining that theme.

Post a quote, scripture, picture of yourself expressing your theme!

Maybe greatness is a skill, an attitude or an activity.

To me; Greatness is a mindset. It’s the value you place on what matters to you most.

What’s your theme?

“Confidence is contagious. So is the lack of confidence.”
—Vince Lombardi

Pick a theme this week. What will you do this week to move you in the direction of that theme?

Focused Friday: Way makers

Do in life what you would do even if no one paid you for it–do what you are passionate about. Soon men will pay almost anything for your services. (God’s Little Devotional Book on Success)

“Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.”-Proverbs 22:29

Sometimes I lose my focus, sometimes my mind gets distracted by the things other people are doing and saying. Sometimes, their vision starts to blur mine.

At that point I literally have to stop & pray. Cuz I know me, I start to flake out and start second guessing where I am, who I am and could even go as far as questioning God’s timing.

Thank God all it takes is a little reset and He gets me back on track.

Stay focused. He knows what you need, He even knows what you want. Be faithful in the space He has you in.

Keep your heart pumpin’, spirit movin’ & get inneractive!
