“System processing, please stand by” says the inviting automated voice inside the grocery store “self-checkout” machine.
“UGH” said the frazzled, hungry, tired, frustrated-cuz- I- got- stuff- to- do- and- these- kids- are- gonna- make- me- hurt- somebody; mom, as she glances at her watch.
“FOR YE HAVE NEED OF PATIENCE” says the quiet voice in the head of the frazzled mom.
You ever realized what role impatience plays in our moods, decision-making and our plans for the day?
Hebrews 10:36 says (KING JAMES) For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. But I love the fact that the original Greek text translates the verb “patience” to “wait for it” referencing that IF you wait, whatever was promised is without a doubt coming your way.
God works in systems.
He’s got a plan (Jeremiah 29:11) and a system (Hebrews 4:12) that simply says He actually knows what we need, He also knows what we want.
He knows what we struggle with, are really good at and not so good at. He knows that being healthy and exercising consistently is in our deepest heart’s desire but we just don’t know where to begin.
Or that maybe it’s not in our deepest hearts desire but we want the rewards of that lifestyle but we don’t have discipline.
When you’re system feels like…
OMG NOTHING FITS
Please stand by…
“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
I quit I’m just not disciplined to eat healthy…
“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
If I can just get through today…
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
Matthew 6 could be the user’s manual for those times when a melt down feels like it’s 30 degrees over the boiling point. I’ve had those moments, sad to say, too often than not. And I’m quickly learning that I don’t even have the right to chalk it up to that lovely monthly reoccurrence. (thanks a lot EVE)
Whatever your day brings you, whatever request you’ve made to God, whether it’s your diet, your exercise, your daily responsibilities, Hebrews 12:1 says let’s set aside everything that weighs us down and slows us down (impatience) and run the race God has set for us (system) with endurance (patience) so that after having done what was asked of us (WAIT FOR IT=discipline) you will receive what He has promised.
We took our kids to see the Karate Kid this weekend and I don’t think I’ve seen a better movie with so many positive messages and biblical principles. Ok, yes they were ancient chinese wisdom but let’s face it…all wisdom comes from God, He is the Creator!
The message that stood out to me while the “Master” was training the student “Doing nothing and being still are not the same thing” WHOA can we say patience and long-suffering and “…be still and know that I am God”
Just a little encouragement!
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires
