Nutrition Month: Non-scale victories

Measuring Success

What does success look like to you? What do you believe you need to do in order to get ahead?

A few days ago I had a conversation with someone who read a recent blog post concerning eating better. She mentioned that the post didn’t say much (to her) about eating better but talked about staying focused on the goal. Just in case there were others who wondered what the connection was, I’d like to camp there and dig a little deeper. I REALLY want you to get this.

Here’s the original post and I’d like to dig deeper into the tips so you can make the connection to today’s nutrition focus.

  • First Point: (…from the original post “RESTORATION WITH RED FOODS”)…RESTORATION:  (noun):the act or {process} of returning something to its original condition by repairing it, cleaning it, etc.: the act of bringing back something that existed before

: the act of returning something that was stolen or taken

Every decision we make to eat smarter, move more and get better supports the restoration of who we are. We literally can be restored from the inside out spirit, soul and body. Y’all I look at my own body as an example. (Philippians 3:12-16) February 2014; the way God completely restored me from literally being near paralyzed, in pain, swollen, broken hearted, surrounded by death and in despair; and He put me back together stronger than I could have ever tried to fix myself. (Ephesians 4:22-24)

Yes we need to eat smarter. Yes we need to move more. Yes we need to think higher of ourselves. But no effort or well thought plan will sustain us without the input and direction from God. Don’t get so focused on your plan that you lose sight of the ultimate goal. A dear friend said to me ” DON’T JUST FEEL BETTER, GET BETTER”. God may be trying to “feed” you something more than a clean eating diet. (GO BACK TO READ THAT POST TO GRAB THE REST OF THAT POINT)

  • Second Point: GET YOUR FOCUS BACK ON THE BIG GOAL you know that goal that scares you? The one that sparked a fire in you that said “I would love to be THAT, do THAT, have THAT, live like THAT? The goal that said you don’t want to just feel better because you’ve experienced that already and found yourself right back where you are right now. It’s THAT GOAL that you know deep within your gut/soul God is telling you there’s something more you were created to have!

Make sense?

Let’s break this down in “bite-size” sections if you want.

In Lara Casey’s Make It Happen she says “Stop the glorification of busy. Busy is the enemy of peace. Busy takes us away from our purpose. Busy is not truly productive in the big picture (BIG GOAL). Busy means life’s joys and surprises can’t find a way into our lives because we’re moving too fast to see and experience them.”

Being busy isn’t being productive.

Let’s measure your success

  • Your Fitness/Nutrition Goals:
  • Your Professional/Career Goals:
  • Your Personal/Life Goals:

I use to be afraid of failing at somthing that really matter to me, but now I’m more afraid of succeeding at things that don’t matter.” – Bob Goff Love Does

  • Do you have a plan?
  • What’s your plan and where is it? Is it on your phone? If so, do you have reminders set on your hourly/daily/weekly/monthly calendar to keep you on FOCUS? Is it a preprinted plan hanging somewhere you can see it?
  • Ask yourself the first question. What does success look like to you?
  • How are you measuring the success of your fitness goals? Nutrition goals? Life Goals?
  • What are you feeding yourself daily to reach your goals? Are you eating too much, not enough, are you honest with yourself?
