Holiday Body: Craving soul food

Mac & cheese, sweet potato casserole, cornbread; ooooh and my mom’s stuffing!!!

I loooooooove Thanksgiving food more than any themed menu, besides Italian but this is a different kinda love. There’s memories attached to this love affair with thanksgiving. There’s the smell of sage; the Macy’s parade, my brothers playing football! My mom’s house always being open even though we had little to nothing, we had each other!

This year my whole family (most) is coming to visit us and I can hardly contain myself! My soul needs this! My soul is CRAVING THIS! I didn’t realize just how much I was craving it til my sister sent me a text and said “yup we’re comin with daddy”! Immediately I was ‘the baby girl’ as my mom endearingly often introduced me.

Cravings. Food, movement, fun, accomplishment, affection, they’re real. And until we come face to face with what they are we’ll never consider why they are.

Giving thanks in ALL things; including cravings!

Brothers and sisters, I myself don’t think I’ve reached it, but I do this one thing: I forget about the things behind me and reach out for the things ahead of me. (Philippians 3:13 CEB)

My son was playing this song the other day and it struck a nerve. One that spindled to my very pulse. It stopped me in my tracks and I couldn’t even describe what I felt. Listen, then let’s talk.

Deep down we’re all searching for something, that we know this world can’t provide

My goal during this Holiday Challenge isn’t to overwhelm you with a gazillion recipes on how to cut the fat & keep the flavor; although there are a few secrets I’m gonna toss at ya; but more I want you to realize how much control you have. To use what you already have.

Over the next 21 days we’re gonna use something we ALL HAVE to get something we ALL WANT!

We all have cravings. We all want them to either go away or if and when we feed them we want them to have no bitter aftertaste. Am I right?

Ok good.

So here’s our sweet little holiday swap…
FROM Made To Crave 21 Day Devotional Day 1by Lysa Terkeurst

“The process of getting healthy has to be about more than just losing weight and focusing on ourselves. It’s not about adjusting our diets and hoping for good physical results. It’s about recalibrating our souls so that we want to change for the right reasons. I’ve realized that a healthy eating plan can be one of the most significant spiritual journeys I’d ever dared to take with God…

How’s that taste? (Keep reading)

“As you join me for the next twenty days, I hope you soon say the same thing!”

So here’s your assignment for this recipe to success…

Today’s Craving: (comment below)
Getting healthy isn’t just a meal plan and planks, it’s spiritual as well.

Spirit, soul & body, we crave; what are you craving the most today? What are you doing to satisfy those cravings?

  1. My cravings peak when I am not in control. Reading Day 1 of the Made to Crave, it made me realize how much I am trying to be in control, that things are so out of control.
