Stronger core. I hear those words so much across the media, the gym floor and even on the football fields. My kids are learning the value of a strong core in their sports (football and gymnastics) and

So what’s the secret to core strength?

Discipline. I know. I just heard you sigh. No body likes the word because just saying it feels like 3 months. I’ll admit it, nothing about the word itself feels like fun. It feels like a shackle, like a bunch of unattainable rules; a heavy load that just feels like blek. Mainly, I think it has something to do with the first part of the actual definition of the word.

Definition of DISCIPLINE

1: to punish or penalize for the sake of enforcing obedience and perfecting moral character
2: to train or develop by instruction and exercise especially in self-control
3 a : to bring (a group) under control b : to impose order upon

That’s the true key. Looking for the opportunity. The reasons most diets fail is because we immediately recognize the choke hold it places on us. We see the limits, the don’t do, the have nots and the ‘you betta not do that’.

This month, whatever your goals are: tackling a daily to do list, scheduling appointments, cleaning your house, choosing one healthier meal per day or staying active daily; find the opportunities. I’ve created a chart in my office as a tool to #getinneractive here’s a simple way to remind yourself.


  • Heart Pumpin’: Set a goal for your body, Find 2 ways to make your body stronger. 10 minutes of exercise everyday. Anybody can do 10 minutes. Not sure what to do? Join the 30 DAY CORE CHALLENGE
  • Spirit Movin’: Set a goal for your spirit! Use a devotional like She Reads Truth or Jesus Calling which can be sent directly to your phone! Or pick a topic and research it in the bible to find out what God has to say about the subject.
  • Anchored: At the center of who you are what’s your greatest desire? Does your life reflect it? What can you do each day to ignite that fire and anchor yourself?

Don’t forget the goal is growth not perfection!!

A spirit of self-discipine–sometimes translated as “a sound mind”–is one of the characteristics of Christ-followers. Nobody who has experienced God’s grace need be timid or afraid with God at their side. (2 Timothy 1:7)

Hebrews 12:11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
