Spring blooms start with dirt

Spring has officially sprung and because this month I always focus on doing some season cleaning and decluttering I thought I’d first say that somehow I totally forgot to post last month but a lot happened on other social channels and life so I’ll be unpacking some of that in the next few posts.

This month has already shown me proof that God is creating something beautiful and I get to witness the unveiling, blooming and keeping of His promises.

I’m madly, deeply in love with this months theme at Revelation Wellness. We’re unpacking the message of #gritandhope and y’all the waves of emotions that these two words trigger are nothing short of God-winks; all the God-breathed permission to go, be, do, dream, rise up, recognize where redemption has called me up and take my place.

This morning’s You Version devotional on faith gives me permission to breathe and process where the anxiety of *doing* normally could cause me to freeze and over analyze.

“Putting your faith into action is less about what you do and don’t do and more about what you do and don’t do. Confusing, isn’t it? With faith that surpasses all understanding, you begin to know when to do and when not to do. While it will be different for each of us, what I can say for everyone is: Do have faith in the things God has called you to and don’t have faith where He has not. ” from Faith: fig tree vs. mountain

So let’s dig into this blooming of grit & hope.

GRIT & HOPE: These two words cause so much to rise up in me!!!

He’s making diamonds – out of grit & hope!!!

And pearls – it’s the grit inside the oyster that creates the pearl!

READ: (1 Peter 2:5, Joshua 4:6-8, 2 Corinthians 4:8-12, Romans 8, Philippians 4, Philippians 3)

GRIT definition:

1. small, loose particles of stone or sand.
“she had a bit of grit in her eye”

synonyms: sand, dust, dirt;
2. courage and resolve; strength of character.
“he displayed the true grit of the navy pilot”

synonyms: courage, bravery, pluck, mettle, backbone, spirit, strength of character, strength of will, moral fiber, steel, nerve, fortitude, toughness, hardiness, resolve, resolution, determination, tenacity, perseverance, endurance;

Digging into all corners of GRIT & HOPE; feeling like this message was written for me; yesterday the word GROWTH sprouted from my meditation.

Both GRIT & HOPE are a mindset.

Friends we GET TO decide if we will live & be in either a fixed or growth mindset.

I’ve combed through a few verses that link to the definitions of both words but what keeps coming up is Romans 8.

Romans 8:22-28 New Living Translation

For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don’t need to hopefor it.  But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.)

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.

What is grit to you? What does hope look like?

What if we saw  grit & hope as the dirt God uses to plant seeds. What’s blooming from your grit & hope?

Are we feeding faith or fear: Overcoming Anxiety

Have you ever dealt with anxiety?

I have. FOR YEARS!!! And here’s where I found the solution!

And I continue to use it whenever new issues, people, things, and problems try to overwhelm me!

And yes, you’ll need to continue to ‘work it out’ on a regular basis just like one visit to the gym won’t make you fit, one prayer won’t keep you well!

I started this devotional on the bible app and asked God to help me remove anything that’s a distraction from allowing Him access to my heart, (Psalm 139:23) my life and my mind. I’d love for you to join me.

The 21 Day Plan – We start TODAY!

I’m reading the @YouVersion plan ‘Living the Surrendered Life’. Check it out here:

No spirit of fear

Friends, Grace covers us and removes every fear, every anxious thought, every regret, every what if, every thought that tries to hold itself higher than the name of Christ, every doubt that says we can’t because we think we are either not enough or too much, every deception & lie that disguises itself as truth and tries to convince us that it’s too late or too soon. Grace is the qualifier. Grace IS the reflection of the cross & the Cross was enough!

For you, me & her and all the rest of them!

I’ve seen many searching for answers far & wide and I know we’re all searching for answers only you provide and you know just what we need before we say a word.

➕ And you call me deeper still… (Good Good Father Chris Tomlin)

““It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear.”

Spring Cleaning Detox: Weighing your why

Hebrews 12:1-3 English Standard Version (ESV)

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Do Not Grow Weary
3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

Why when you’ve put in so much work, effort, discipline, time and commitment would you quit? (I’m just preachin to myself)

The thing you were after, your breakthrough, your healing, your BIG GOAL is on the other side of where you’re standing right now.

Why quit now?

Isn’t this the reason you started in the first place? I get it, you’ve done everything you know to do, you’ve exhausted yourself, you’ve pushed yourself further than you’ve ever pushed in your life. But ok, you won’t go there. (Stil just preachin to myself)

There is where the blessing sits.

There is the help you’ve been praying about.

There is the key that unlocks the chains

YES there’s a grip. It’s called a STRONGHOLD. It’s holding on strong, to you!

One that can only be unlocked or broken through humility. Humility of recognizing and admitting I CAN’T, but God can.

Humility that accepts HIS plan might take me off course.

Humility that submits to the idea that His plan might require me to go help someone else instead of helping myself. Helping someone else without expecting them to return the favor.

Humility that says let’s talk about where you came from.

Humility that takes you back there.

Humility that says THIS IS WHO YOU ARE.

Humility that says NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO QUIT.

Humility that does what’s required even when what’s required seems too ridiculous or too humbling!

How bad do you want it?  Is it worth one more time? Is it worth the weight?

Faith is not passive, it speaks, it acts, it stretches.

Yesterday I was challenged to move toward something I truly believed yet my actions deceptively proved otherwise.

I got pushed, almost to tears, oh y’all, I pushed through but it wasn’t easy.

I’m telling y’all the voices of accusation, guilt and rationalization were there to cheer me on and when I felt like quitting they cheered YES JUST STOP WHY ARE WOULD YOU DO THIS TO YOURSELF.

Then I heard “faith without works is dead”…

Something came alive in me.

I know it was faith.

I know it was trust that God never leaves us and fully equips us with what we need.

I know it was a flame that tried to go out but I had to fan it, to ask God to breathe on it! Faith is a verb.

When’s the last time your faith did something greater than fear?

When’s the last time your faith had a voice?

When’s the last time your faith moved?

When’s the last time your faith was stretched WITHOUT getting twisted or bent out of shape?

Where’s your faith?

Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, “Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!” and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup—where does that get you? Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense? (‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭14-17‬ MSG)

How much does your why weigh?

Spring Cleaning – Needing help

turquoise cup in bedEdit

What’s the easiest thing for you to do everyday? Do you ever ask for help doing it?

What’s the hardest thing for you to do everyday? Do you ever ask for help doing THAT?

Why not?

What keeps us from asking for help with the easy stuff?

It sort of seems foolish to ask for help doing something that we’ve managed to maintain on our own, effortlessly right?

So then, what about the hard stuff? Why don’t we ask for help with those things? Is it that we’re afraid we’ll be seen as incapable of managing our affairs? Could it be that we’re afraid of the label that might be placed on us?

Oh, I know, maybe if we ask for help, we just might get it but it might mean we actually have to let go of that thing so someone else can be in control of something in our own lives?

Whatever it is that keeps us from asking for help, at the root of that issue is the bigger issue: Do we really want it.

What is it that you want?

In every part of your life (spirit, soul and body); what do you want?

Have you asked for help?

When you asked, did you wait to receive it?

On a scale of 1 – 10 (10 being the greatest desire) what was/is your willingness to receive it?

What’s stopping you from asking/receiving?

I need your help.

I want to help you throw off the weight you’ve been carrying.

I need your help.

I want to help you get rid of the guilt and receive the grace.

I need your help.

I want to help you exchange those lies for the truth of God’s promises.

I need your help.

I want to help you.

I need your help.

How can I help you.

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. – Matthew 7:7

Spring Cleaning – Well done not well considered

“We are bombarded daily by supposedly perfect images that we must somehow attain. We get stuck in an endless amount of comparison always finding ourselves lacking. Our minds are programmed by the media to diet, deny ourselves and never be satisfied with who we are right now. And we’re encouraged in so many subtle ways to obsess about our bodies and sculpt them into perfection and starve them into submission.” -Emily Rosen, Director of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating.

I couldn’t breathe.

I couldn’t sit still.

I kept rummaging the kitchen for something to eat, anything.

I couldn’t settle my mind and my body began to tingle almost a slow twitch, it started to itch and then tighten.

My hands became numb, my back felt heavy, my legs tight and achy, shoulders weighed down and chest started closing in.

I was having an anxiety attack.

Anxiety is a fear that the outcome won’t be as expected so we try to take control rather than trusting to leave everything in God’s hands.

Y’all my heart was heavy with worry for so many things, too many to list.

My mind began to focus on those things and the people and why I couldn’t do it. Why I couldn’t fix it/them. I became overwhelmed, I couldn’t go to sleep and my emotions got the best of me.

When we FOCUS on what we don’t have or on situations that displease us, our minds become darkened. In darkness, we miss the things we do have. We look for what’s wrong and refuse to enjoy life until it’s ‘fixed’. I literally had to stop, stand still and answer the voice that kept whispering in my spirit ‘what’s wrong’. Initially I thought it was me questioning what I had done wrong or right, but in fact it was The Holy Spirit inviting me to talk with Him.

God wants us to be honest, to share our deepest desires, even the overwhelmingly dark anxious thoughts. (1 Peter 5:7)

When we call on Him He answers. (Jeremiah 33:3) He gives us the answers to things we’ve searched for and questioned maybe even our entire lives.

He’s our help friends. He’s there for us! He’s always available.

Just breathe.

Give Him your fears, your hopes, your dreams, your anxious thoughts. He cares.

His word promises that when we have done as He asked us to do with whatever it is He has given us His reply will be “Well done good and faithful servant”.

This one life that we’ve been given, we are expected to live it full and abundant taking care of the body we’ve been given, using the gifts we’ve been given to bless those around us, to be responsible and kind and loving and patient and we won’t ever be perfect. And guess what, we probably won’t do the way everybody else is doing it or the way they think we should’ve done it. But you know what, THAT’S EXACTLY THE WAY GOD INTENDED IT TO BE!

God ALWAYS considers the efforts we actually put into action “well done” not well considered or well planned or well thought out or well perfect. God looks at the heart/motives of a person while man looks at the outside.

We can take a deep breath and realize that we aren’t suppose to get this right. Anxiety isn’t fun. It’s overwhelming and exhausting. It’s deciding that I’ll start eating better, exercising and allowing God to guide my life including my finances then trying to make sure I see the end result the day after I started. That’s anxiety. It’s deciding to get a handle on my emotions then realizing that someone is hurting and they’ve pulled on you to help their hurt and end up hurting you and you can’t fix either of you because you aren’t Jesus, that’s anxiety. It’s recognizing that there are big dreams you’ve always had and you can’t wait to fulfill them and you make a goal list and you get so excited that you don’t know when or where to begin so you decide it’s too much and maybe you’re not good enough so why bother. THAT’S ANXIETY.

That’s NOT God’s plan.

Romans 12:1-3  (ESV)

A Living Sacrifice
12 I appeal to you therefore, brothers,[a] by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.[b] 2 Do not be conformed to this world,[c] but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.[d]

Gifts of Grace
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.

Help me also not to think of myself of anything less than a child of Yours, God, dearly loved by You (Ephesians 5:1 ESV)

Your deep desire is for me to posses both humility and security

Spring Cleaning isn’t done til it’s done but listen, do it on purpose. Don’t do it to prove a point to anyone. Don’t do it to compare yourself to someone else. Do it because you are worth it. Every meal, every move, every breath, every better choice.

The 4 Steps of a better choices “diet”

  1. Make a daily record of everything you eat.
  2. Determine which foods contribute the most Calories to your diet.
  3. Make Better Choice substitutions for those foods.
  4. Repeat. Your goal is to gradually evolve your diet to include more nutritious and filling foods and less unhealthy and unsatisfying foods. Over time, as you incorporate more of these foods into your diet, the total calories that you consume will drop, and the overall nutrient density of your meals will increase
