31quote

For the next 31 days I’m digging into the truth of our first book study of the year She Reads Truth: Holding Tight To Permanent in A World That’s Passing Away .

BUT FIRST, here’s where I am.

end-of-the-year-reflection

On the last Friday of the year, I spent several hours gathering tools to get organized, to clean out closets and declutter my brain…

I mumbled to my daughter that I still needed a verse to meditate on and she spouted “JAMES 1:3 OR 1:5” I looked at her and said  really? She laughed and jokingly assured me that she had no idea what it said… YALL!!!!!!

“For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed you will be perfect and complete needing nothing. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking” (New Living Translation)

Today has been filled with lots of reflecting, praying, crying, wondering, praying, praising and more crying.

Overwhelmed by God’s grace this year and the way He made sure I knew who He is, was and always will be. Overwhelmed by all of the things He let me do and all of the stuff He protected me from, including myself. As I’m slowly working through the Lara Casey’s #2017goalsetting series my heart is flooded with so much reassurance that the only things I need to be concerned with are the things that matter most in God’s eyes and I can rest in knowing He always has an answer; even if He needs to use my kids. I have my word for 2017 and I can’t wait to see how He unfolds it. For sure James 1:3-5 is a great jump off point!!!!
Ok. So I’m ready to step into the new year with the focus of my heart that anything is possible. I’m willing to get raw and honest and recognize that I’ve been rationalizing some things with God and my heart was harboring some emotional junk that started weighing me down. Over the next 31 days I’m going to be detoxing my mind, body and spirit to flush out the toxic stuff that I have allowed in. Stuff like too many lazy days, too much sugar and coffee, too much comparison and too much fear. I’m also realizing that somewhere I got really comfortable with the amount of exercise I was doing (or not doing) and I realized I can’t even do a push up like I use to. I’m sure that somewhere my body needed rest that it hadn’t seen in a long time and then I got comfortable in the rest.
SEE, this is why balance is so important to being healthy.
Ok, so, My ONE WORD for 2017 is ESTABLISH
establish

My mentor says if you answer a call on your life and you’re so afraid of it that it makes you want to throw up, you’re on track with Gods plan.

My greatest desire is to see people healthy from the inside out. And that is risky. It’s risky because it means me being honest, transparent & crazy vulnerable sharing my story that I haven’t always been healthy and there are parts of me that are still being repaired.

Brokenness aside, Jesus offers me wholeness and I WANT IT ALL.

Not just for me and my family.

I want whole for you, and you and yes you; the one who’s heart is set on making sure the world knows how unbroken you are by shouting about your freedom & proving your worth & seeking their approval.

With open hands, a surrendered heart and scared out of my mind (Romans 12 & James 1) I’m walking into 2017 to own what God has already done & claim the victory for the battle that has already been won.

Cheers to punching fear in the face and being who God calls you!

2017 is all about helping us ESTABLISH better health, better goals and wholeness inside and out.

2017-heart-desires

Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines ESTABLISH as

ESTAB’LISH, verb transitive [Latin stabilio; Heb. to set, fix, establish ]

1. To set and fix firmly or unalterably; to settle permanently.

I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant. Genesis 17:7.

2. To found permanently; to erect and fix or settle; as, to establish a colony or an empire.

3. To enact or decree by authority and for permanence; to ordain; to appoint; as, to establish laws, regulations, institutions, rules, ordinances, etc.

4. To settle or fix; to confirm; as, to establish a person, society or corporation, in possessions or privileges.

5. To make firm; to confirm; to ratify what has been previously set or made.

Do we then make void the law through faith?

God forbid; yea, we establish the law. Romans 3:31.

6. To settle or fix what is wavering, doubtful or weak; to confirm.

So were the churches established in the faith. Acts 16:5.

To the end he may establish your hearts unblamable in

holiness. l Thess.3.

7. To confirm; to fulfill; to make good.

Establish thy word to thy servant. Psalms 119:90

8. To set up in the place of another and confirm.

Who go about to establish their own righteousness. Romans 10:3.

Yeah. My mind is kinda blown on that one…

So I decided to search the inneractive website for the word ESTABLISH to see what God may have already spoken to me about. Y’all I love the way He starts weaving stories!

And, here’s a few honest questions (from the PowerSheets goal sheet) I’ve had to ask myself in the past few days but I’m still working through. And if you’re willing, I’d love for you to join me in this. So, grab a pen and a journal and let’s workout…

  • What am I grateful for from this past year?
  • What didn’t work this year?
  • What did work this year
  • What lessons have I learned

Lara Casey put together for the 2017 Goal Setting Series. Y’all I highly suggestion you go through all of the steps!

Alright. That’s where I am. That’s what God is speaking to me right now and I’m stepping boldly into this space. If you want to come with me, let’s go. There’s a fitness and nutrition component to this because during January we’ll be on the Daniel fast with our church. Click here to register for this part of the challenge… You don’t have to but it might help you stop trying to be better and actually help you get better. I mean, for me 2016 proved that I spent a whole lotta time getting bitter instead of getting better. I’m just sayin… click here

wEIGH LESS TO FEED MORE INVITE

“But, except for these special cases, I’m not going to walk around on eggshells worrying about what small-minded people might say; I’m going to stride free and easy, knowing what our large-minded Master has already said. If I eat what is served to me, grateful to God for what is on the table, how can I worry about what someone will say? I thanked God for it and he blessed it!

So eat your meals heartily, not worrying about what others say about you—you’re eating to God’s glory, after all, not to please them. As a matter of fact, do everything that way, heartily and freely to God’s glory. At the same time, don’t be callous in your exercise of freedom, thoughtlessly stepping on the toes of those who aren’t as free as you are. I try my best to be considerate of everyone’s feelings in all these matters; I hope you will be, too.”
1 Corinthians 10:29-33 MSG

Maybe you have struggled with your weight your entire life, riding a constant roller coaster of numbers that go up and down along with pant sizes. Or maybe you are finding yourself more stressed out and pressed upon by the world and all its demands. Perhaps you just don’t feel as well in your body as you do in your spirit. Weigh Less to Feed More is going to change the way you perceive yourself and the way that you live your life. This time the change will occur from the inside out. We are seeking a change with roots that go deeply, so that when life comes at you hard and fast, you will stand firm in the truth of who God is and who He intends you to be. {pulled directly from the materials you’ll receive as a participant in the Weigh Less to Feed More FOCUS group}

Ok y’all today I just want to talk to you.

It’s the first full week of the new year and I just wanted to ask you a few questions.

What do you do, when you know what to do, but don’t know where to begin?

What do YOU do, when you know where to begin but you don’t know when, where, how or why?

Goals can be scary. Are they not?

What’s that quote say… If your goals don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough!

Dude! Right now, my goals are scaring the buhgeebees outta me!

Do you have any of those? Not the buhgeebees but the big ole scary goals?

How do you work your way through the big ones that scare you?

Shoot, How do you work your way through the ones that might seem too small to be on a goal list?

How do you make a goal list when you flat out don’t even know where to start?

Goals are goals. Big or small. Personal, spiritual, physical, financial, relational. They are all goals and they all matter or they wouldn’t be burning your heart the way they do.

The other day I sat down with my Power Sheets and became full out overwhelmed by my goals. I’m talkin’ cold sweats, nausea and a pounding headache literally in a matter of seconds; overwhelmed. I knew it was totally fear but I knew it was very real. When I read the first page of assignments asking me to introduce myself (to myself might I add) I thought ok cool I can do this. But it was the sections that made me address these fears that started working up all of this anxiety. For years I dealt with anxiety attacks, only I didn’t really know that’s what they were. Everything from chest pains to seemingly random sweats (I still get those and no they are not age related that stuff is spiritual) even the stomach cramping and issue of pain I suffered through in 2014 are all linked to this anxiety and fear.

Y’all this year is gonna be different!!!

Starting right here!!! I am surrendering my fear. Remember our V.O.W. this is the first step toward setting ourselves up for success. AND surrendering fear to the hand of God that will not leave us out there to fend for ourselves! He fights the battle against fear for us and with us!

This week’s V.O.W. (Verse of the Week)

Deuteronomy 12:28

Be careful to obey all these words that I command you, that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the LORD your God.

Write this verse down. Put it on your car dash board. Repeat after me:

I WILL NOT BECOME OVERWHELMED BY THIS TASK THAT YOU’VE PLACED IN FRONT OF ME

I committed to myself and to y’all that 2015 is the year I “MAKE IT HAPPEN” and I’ve promised that I would document this journey; this is how I’ll hold myself accountable. Speaking of which, accountability has it’s own level of anxiety because that means everybody knows.

What if we fail? What if we don’t reach the goals we actually set? What if we make a declaration that God is going to do something and folks start looking at us sideways when the ground underneath us starts shaking? What if? Well, what if? I’d rather pursue it and watch God reveal His awesomeness than sit back and do nothing, get nothing and become nothing!

I’m currently reading MAKE IT HAPPEN by Lara Casey and when I say that you NEED to get this book!!! Trust me, your life, your goals, your hearts desires will thank me later! Let’s do this together!

So now what? This year I’ve decided that I won’t allow myself to become overwhelmed by anything and the ONLY WAY that can happen is to surrender my fear, take the leap and set my intentions and thoughts accordingly.

Y’all can we do things different this year?

Seriously, let’s set our brain to work in small patterns of success. AND, AND when we reach even the smallest progress let’s not hesitate to acknowledge that!!! I promise to be your biggest cheerleader!!!

Let’s take it one week at a time.

Here’s a 7 day challenge to get you on track!

Follow this simple clean eating guide and complete these moves for one minute each.

My Anthem for 2015

FOCUS: Set goals by making a vow

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ (‭Mark‬ ‭12‬:‭30‬ ESV)

Make a V.O.W.

vowpic2

Each year I set my own personal goals, but one of my family goals this year is to get in the habit of learning, understanding, and applying God’s Word on a daily basis; together, as a family.

I’ve always felt that if you simply recite the words of the scripture, but don’t actually know what they mean, then how can we use them as motivation or tools in our lives. The bible says that God’s word is active; that means its very purpose is to MOVE through our lives. God’s word is ALIVE; which means it’s breathing into our lives and it’s like a double edged sword which cuts through the ‘tough stuff’.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭12‬ ESV)

As we ‘MOVE’ forward into the year, into our fresh starts and new focus; let’s do more than consider the plans God has for our lives let’s put them into action.

I’ve joined the mission at Make A Vow to keep my family on a path of recognizing God’s Word first and allowing it to be our guide. Each week we’ll focus on memorizing the scripture and how to use it. I’ll  share the verses here, blogging and journaling as the Lord reveals the application of His Word and I would love for you join me. I love that this plan of purpose falls right in line with the FOCUS challenge and my ONE WORD for 2015.

Have you established your ONE WORD yet? Oh if not, get your word now and set your focus!

I couldn’t think of a more perfect verse to finish this year strong and usher in the excitement of the new year than Mark 12:30

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ (‭Mark‬ ‭12‬:‭30‬ ESV)

All your heart, all your soul, all your mind, all your strength…did we leave anything out of that verse?

Talk about a clean slate!

We get a clean slate to give everything a fresh start.

To give everything an opportunity to finish strong and begin again!

To give everything we are, everything we have and everything that makes us move, breath and live a brand new start!

To give all that to God who gives ALL THAT back to us brand spanking new unbroken, whole, healed, stronger, braver, purposed!

To give all that to loving Him with everything.

We make that step forward toward Him He makes a step toward us.

One small step (which usually starts as a consideration in our heart – when your heart skips a beat and your pulse begins to quicken as you think about how much you want your life to be better); one small step (when your emotions/soul, thoughts/mind and ability/weakness/strength) says I may not be able to do everything I desire to do and even though it looks impossible I know that ALL THINGS are possible with God and because of this He gives me the ability to do everything in His strength.

One small step is a goal, one small step is a vow, one small step is ONE WORD, one small step for us is a giant leap into our future for Him!!! How awesome is that!!!!!

I’m so excited for everything this year is finishing with and can’t wait to see what God has in store for us in the coming days, weeks and months!

We’ll unwrap each of those points of purpose (heart, soul, mind and strength) throughout the week but for now, because music has a way of moving us; (pun intended) and music has a way of sinking a message into our heart, soul, mind and strength; I wanted to share this song with you.

Let’s make our goals, make our vow, make our one word and make our commitment to give Him our all!

I’d love to know what your ONE WORD is, comment below and share it with us.

He Wants It All by Forever Jones
