Waiting for & expecting the promise of Christmas

Expectation: Acknowledge where you are, in this moment and give yourself the grace to be where you need to be

Indeed, we have all received grace upon grace from His fullness. John 1:16

3 Promises to motivate you to keep movin in the waiting

Promise 1: He gives us proof & permission to live as we were uniquely designed!

Never was it in His plan (Jeremiah 29) for you to look like, act like, or reflect the image of the world; but without striving and effort; to be His reflection, to be His body; to be His hands, His feet, His voice; to be an image bearer of THE Light & THE Truth & The Way!

“Hope knows that if great trials are avoided great deeds remain undone and the possibility of growth into greatness of soul is aborted.” – Brennan Manning Abba’s Child.

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (Philippians 4:8)

Now Go brave one, with an anchored soul & SHINE YOUR LIGHT

Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. Romans 12:4-5 NLT

Promise number 2: Grace is sufficient

God assignments can be scary. In fact, they usually are because He asks us to grow and to do that we need to move out of our comfort zones.

Launching MOMENT’em Style is one of those assignments. Over the past year, God has been speaking words and phrases to both me and my sister from another Mister (INSTAGRAM:@faithfitmommystuff)

He challenged us to put those words and phrases on T-Shirts.

We joked about it all year long until one day we said “Let’s do this!” Here is one of four shirts in out premier collection.

As health and wholeness professionals we work with women who often feel like they don’t have what it takes to get or stay healthy and fit. There’s so much pressure these days to not only lose weight but get toned or cut. To go hard or go home. To go beast mode.

#GraceMode is an encouragement to view exercise as a get to and not a have to. It’s a call to celebrate our bodies and all the awesome things they can do. So why go beast mode when His grace is sufficient?

This and other uplifting shirts are available in the MOMENT’em Shop. We also have journals and mugs.

Promise number 3: He knows the plans He has for your future. He has given us a plan to fight EVERY battle

BattlePlan for prayer

The Battle Plan for Prayer equips and encourages you to see prayer as your first wave of attack in every undertaking. Think of this book as a strategic guide to engaging with God, expecting His answers, and enlarging your vision of what He can do through someone like you.

Advent Promise: Expectation

Hebrews 6:19 We have THIS HOPE as an anchor for our soul.

While we wait for and expect the promise of Christ (Christmas) let’s root down and anchor our souls in the hope that is the greatest gift.

Advent + Holy Yoga Week 2: Expect

I expect you to keep movin’ throughout the Christmas season so I’ve put together a playlist of videos you can use even if you’ll be traveling during the holidays!

FOCUS: Emotional eating

SOURCE: Dr. Caroline Leaf

April is Stress Awareness Month and it got me to thinking about Emotional eating: aren’t we all emotional eaters?

We celebrate with food; we show condolences or support with food; we even gather around found just to show how much we need each other.

I wonder could it be that it’s not so much the food that’s the issue but our emotions.

What if we got control of our emotions. We can usually control the food we turn to during the emotional roller coaster; the food feels like a safety net or a gas pedal depending on which road you’re on. But what about the emotions. Don’t emotions come from a trigger of perception concerning the situation? Perceptions create our responses = EMOTIONS

What if our perceptions changed and we began to see things different. If even in the midst of a “this is way beyond anything I ever imagined”; we paused and let God filter our response.

Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places; and talents in unexpected people, and give me the GRACE to tell them so. – unknown

What if, in this new season we allowed God to help us grow right where we are. Allow Him to reach into our hearts and find those perceptions that send us full speed ahead on a collision with doubt, fear, anxiety, comparison, inadequacy…(feel free to fill in the blanks)

Do not [earnestly] remember the former things; neither consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:18, 19 AMP)

Our emotions are real but we cannot let them continue to feed us lies! We cannot continue to allow them to take us down dead-end roads!

Join us for the April Spring Cleaning F.O.C.U.S. (I’m not calling it a challenge, cuz it seems we’ve seen enough of those but we have yet to adjust our focus. It’s time to adjust our focus otherwise we’ll keep facing the same challenges!)

Keep your heart pumpin, spirit movin & #getinneractive

Feel the music, share truth & rewrite the rules

 Feel the music

This is one of my Zumba heros! She’s 80-somethin’ years old, belongs to a motor cycle gang and takes tap dancing in addition to Zumba! And boy does she have moves. She comes to Zumba with her daughter who’s in her 60’s who plays the drums and drives an 18 wheeler! I mean talk about grabbing life and enjoying the ride.

She decided to choose joy. She makes me happy when I see her dance!

When I dance, it’s like moving to the joy I choose. Dance has become an expression of a deep confession I can’t put into words.

dI feel the music deep down in my soul. It makes me happy! Yes I will clap along cuz I feel like happiness is a truth!

I’ll wait while you get your dance on!

Could you imagine life without music? Ugg talk about blah!

What’s your favorite happy song? The one that just makes you ooze with joy?

If you had to give that song a color what color would it be?

Now imagine your life without that color? How does that make you feel?

Music can color our lives. The lyrics sort of paint a picture.

Music is the language of our soul.

I came across this video the other day and it just made me so happy I couldn’t even try to stop smiling.

Get your happy on!

Live in color

“Colors are the smiles of nature” – unknown

I’m so glad my life & wardrobe was delivered from blah! Life is better in color. I laugh because my fitness laundry resembles that of a crayon box explosion. I rarely share this story because very few people understand it. But here’s an opportunity because it’s bubbling up inside of me so I feel like somebody needs it.

My Truth

Several years ago I was restored from a wardrobe of brown, grey and black. Oh wait, no there was blue. Yes there was definitely navy blue. And that was the extent of my wardrobe. Every shirt, every pair of pants, every jacket, shoe and boot. Even my swimsuits were black (that was a whole other issue of freedom & confidence). I was comfortable in my dark clothing, yet I was extremely uncomfortable in my own skin.

It took lots of self assessments, spending time recognizing that all of the promises in the bible of forgiveness and restoration included me. It took a ton of letting go of my past, letting go of rejections, disappointment and resentment. I knew that God was doing something in me, that there was a huge purge and I could feel my shoulders pull back, my head began to lift higher and every muscle in my face started to take on a different structure. I never really said much to anyone concerning it I just slowly started adding color to my closet. I honestly think it was wearing the tropical colors in Zumba that started to pry me out of that shell.

But actually, it wasn’t until a friend asked me if I had grown taller that I realized something really did happen. She said she could see a visible difference that happened in me. She noticed I walked taller, I danced more freely and I was comfortable in my environments.

I cried later that night because that had been my prayer. I prayed for the shackles to come off so I could just dance! I believe I had entangled myself into a box of rules that I needed to look, act, speak, dance and even smile a certain way.

I wanted freedom and that wasn’t freedom.

I wanted to be free to move.

I wanted to be free to find my own fitness.

I wanted to be free to dance and be proud of my dance. I wanted to find my own fitness.

Finding my own ‘fitness’ meant standing face to face with the reality that maybe, just maybe, I was trying to live someone else’s idea of who I should be, or possibly living a life that I THOUGHT someone else expected me to live. The torture & defeat in both situations is in itself disappointment; attached to not being able to live up to what you think they think you should be. Talk about a tangled web of deception there.

The stress of trying to measure up, trying to figure out if you’re enough, trying to check your every move, every decision and everyTHING to see if it’s just like the ideal person (as distorted as that might be) you find yourself giving nearly 110% of who you are trying to be something & someone you were never intended to be.

That’s not freedom at all. That’s pure bondage. That’s living in a dark pit of deception.

But God doesn’t want us there. Praise God that His Mercy shows up even in the darkness and His light quiets the chaos.

He shines His light on us, not on the places we feel are inadequate but on the things He has done. How He created us, the gifts, the talents, the uniqueness in our creation. He wants us to see who we really are. He wants us to see how specifically He made us, no mistakes, no flaws just wonderful!

Spirit. Soul. Body. -wonderfully made

13 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb.

14 I thank you, High God – you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration – what a creation!

15 You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something.

16 Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.

Strength & Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged.

God, your God is with you every step you take. -(Joshua 1 Message Version)

Ephesians 3: My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.

Glory to God in the church!
Glory to God in the Messiah, in Jesus!

FOCUS: Find Happy

Are you happy? Some people avoid the word, like it’s too elementary.

I’ve heard the notion of not being happy because happy requires something to happen, but what about a deep down in your soul reckoning rejoice that translates into happy? How ’bout that kinda happy? Cuz that’s what I know.

Not what I feel. I know it.

I know it because I recognize a change.

A shift.

A shift in what use to be weak. Is now strong.
A shift in what use to make excuses. Is now my WHY.
A shift in what use to be intimidated. Is now relentlessly bold. Without apology.
A shift in what use to apologize. For everything. Is now accepted, loved, humbled and happy.

That’s happy.

You don’t get there alone. You don’t create it.

You find a space where you can be ok with what you have, and who you are.

You surround yourself with people who respect that space. You ask God to set up the boundaries. Because, let’s be honest; if you set those boundaries yourself only the ‘cozy cuddling, hand holding people’ would be allowed in.

One of my ‘happy’ places is with my FitFluential family. It’s happy because it’s people who are on a journey of living healthier lives inside and out. Real people. Not pretentious, snide, “I fought my way, so find your own way” type of people. But people who are so excited about finding their own freedom in fitness & eating well that they just want to inspire the world to do the same.

It all started with a ‘what if’ from Kelly Olexa, the FitFluential CEO or as we all call her, Aunt Kelly. And seriously, she’s the aunt you always love to hang out with; you know the one that totally ‘gets you’ and has cool clothes, hair and STUFF. Yes she’s that aunt and she shares EVERYTHING with you! She’s brilliant! Anyway, her mind is always on overdrive coming up with awesome ways to keep inspiring the world to live healthy. She leaves sparkle everywhere she goes. I wanted to share with you her most recently sparkle sprinkle!

Tell me, what makes you happy (relentless rejoicing)?

How do you maintain your boundaries?

P.S. Join the FitFluential community for tons of inspiration & motivation, recipes and just connecting with like-minded ‘happy-focus’ people! Please tell them Amia Freeman sent you!

And if you’re on instagram make sure we’re connected (just comment below with your profile name); tag me (@inneractivefit); use the hashtags #fitfluential #FFCheckin and watch how many people support your happy!

Love you, God bless you. Keep your heart pumpin & your spirit movin’ and get inneractive (translation “happy”).

(Cue the happy music) Happy

Make this year happen: 3 things you need

“This is the year I become a writer and do what writers do. They write.” -Jeff Goins.

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset

And you wanna know how much fear fell behind me when I typed those words. If it were a wrecking ball I could tear down an entire building in one swoop. Yeah. That’s the fear that has held me back for far too long.

When I looked over last year’s goals and realized that 9 out of 10 of my goals happened but the one that didn’t was bound in fear. Actually acceptance, which is rooted in fear.

Turns out, that’s all writing really is — showing up. Not worrying about the outcome, just honoring the process. – Jeff Goins

Acceptance, that wretched little jagged pill that I often swallow. Acceptance & approval addiction are cousins to perfection. I read somewhere that we should never strive for perfection but growth. This year I am committed to dropping that focus of perfection, push forward on my growth plan and accept when God has moved me and shown me favor.

Making this year happen really only requires that we focus our commitment on 3 things. In our commitment to each one, let’s refuse to allow anything to create a wedge of any distance between us and the thing, to never apologize for the commitment and to value the opportunity within it.

  1. Time – Slow down. Enjoy each process, the people involved and the specific appointed time. Don’t skimp on time with God. “Resist the clamor of tasks waiting to be done. You have chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from you.” – (Jesus Calling)
  2. Talent – Because authenticity & transparency ARE NOT the same thing. Because our public lives should always be a reflection of our private lives. Because influence happens whether you intended it or not. Because being driven by an internal addiction of approval leads to beautiful deception. Because Galatians 1:10 has adjusted my #FOCUS {Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ} (inspired by #leadingandlovingit)  Asking God to help balance my expectations of others, myself and Him. To never allow anyone to fill an expectation only He is intended to fill!
  3. Treasures – What matters most? The cliché statement on everyone’s tongue as we all try to take inventory and ‘become’ something of value; “what’s God’s plan for my life”. Treasure what matters most. When you find it in your heart of hearts, value it so much that you’ll never sell it but freely give it because it was freely given to you.

2 Corinthians 4: 1-2: Since God has so generously let us in on what he is doing, we’re not about to throw up our hands and walk off the job just because we run into occasional hard times. We refuse to wear masks and play games. We don’t maneuver and manipulate behind the scenes. And we don’t twist God’s Word to suit ourselves. Rather, we keep everything we do and say out in the open, the whole truth on display, so that those who want to can see and judge for themselves in the presence of God.

3-4 If our Message is obscure to anyone, it’s not because we’re holding back in any way. No, it’s because these other people are looking or going the wrong way and refuse to give it serious attention. All they have eyes for is the fashionable god of darkness. They think he can give them what they want, and that they won’t have to bother believing a Truth they can’t see. They’re stone-blind to the dayspring brightness of the Message that shines with Christ, who gives us the best picture of God we’ll ever get.

5-6 Remember, our Message is not about ourselves; we’re proclaiming Jesus Christ, the Master. All we are is messengers, errand runners from Jesus for you. It started when God said, “Light up the darkness!” and our lives filled up with light as we saw and understood God in the face of Christ, all bright and beautiful.

7-12 If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That’s to prevent anyone from confusing God’s incomparable power with us. As it is, there’s not much chance of that. You know for yourselves that we’re not much to look at. We’ve been surrounded and battered by troubles, but we’re not demoralized; we’re not sure what to do, but we know that God knows what to do; we’ve been spiritually terrorized, but God hasn’t left our side; we’ve been thrown down, but we haven’t broken. What they did to Jesus, they do to us—trial and torture, mockery and murder; what Jesus did among them, he does in us—he lives! Our lives are at constant risk for Jesus’ sake, which makes Jesus’ life all the more evident in us. While we’re going through the worst, you’re getting in on the best!

“It takes as much energy to wish, as it does to plan” – Eleanor Roosevelt

The first step, the step that so many people neglect in our fast-paced world is to determine what you want! What are your priorities?

It sounds so obvious, but you won’t believe how many of us forget to ask this of ourselves. What do you really want?

What is meaningful to you?
