Are we feeding faith or fear: Overcoming Anxiety 

  

Have you ever dealt with anxiety? 

I have. FOR YEARS!!! And here’s where I found the solution! 

And I continue to use it whenever new issues, people, things, and problems try to overwhelm me! 

And yes, you’ll need to continue to ‘work it out’ on a regular basis just like one visit to the gym won’t make you fit, one prayer won’t keep you well! 

  

Surrender 

I started this devotional on the bible app and asked God to help me remove anything that’s a distraction from allowing Him access to my heart, (Psalm 139:23) my life and my mind. I’d love for you to join me.

No spirit of fear

Friends, Grace covers us and removes every fear, every anxious thought, every regret, every what if, every thought that tries to hold itself higher than the name of Christ, every doubt that says we can’t because we think we are either not enough or too much, every deception & lie that disguises itself as truth and tries to convince us that it’s too late or too soon. Grace is the qualifier. Grace IS the reflection of the cross & the Cross was enough! 

For you, me & her and all the rest of them!

Spring Cleaning:

What has you so stressed? Do we need to go back to our first assignment? Sometimes the stuff that has us stressed is just that, stuff. It doesn’t always allow us to be our true selves or the person we really want to be, some other person shows up and we find ourselves getting frazzled. Often we get tangled up in the chaos of what’s stressing us because of our perspective. We sometimes see it bigger than it is. And I can’t lie it does make you want to go bananas 😉 So what better way to talk about dealing with these stressors than to introduce the least likely solution. YUP. A banana.

In  Naked Fruit: Getting Honest about the Fruit of the Spirit Author Elisa Morgan links the banana to the fruit of the spirit gentleness. “The banana is a sensitive fruit. Its skin provides incomplete protection. Often ist skin is bruised, so is the fruit within.” She describes gentleness as harnessed power, a bent will. Even in a lifetime of growing the fruit of gentleness, it will always mean being yielded to God’s desires and letting go of our own.

Gentleness is a tricky fruit to grow because it requires such surrender, and surrender makes us vulnerable. Gentleness yields. Gentleness pauses. Gentleness looks both ways. Gentleness waits for directions before proceeding. With kids. With work. With friendships. With a mate. With parents. And with what we do to become who we want to be. 

This book Naked Fruit has been one of my favorites over the years in terms of knowing how healthy my spirit, soul and body are. It’s a fun, honest look at what we’re eating, the seeds we’re planting, and what we’re serving (offering) others.

Fruit for thought:

  • Like a banana that easily bruises, we do become more vulnerable as the fruit of gentleness grows in our lives. What precautions do we need to take as we allow God to grow this fruit? Is there such a thing as being too gentle, too yielded, or yielded to the wrong thing? (Comment below)

FOCUS: Meditation & Confession

Today we’re talking MEDITATION✨ (inspired by @SheReadsTruth ) To meditate:

“to engage in contemplation or reflection; to focus one’s thoughts on: reflect on or ponder over”.

“Researchers now believe that *any* activity that requires focused attention and being in the moment can count as your daily dose of meditation. This includes shifting your focus from what you’re doing, to a moment-by-moment consideration of the larger meaning of the activity in your life” (SOURCE: Natural Health Magazine)

When you give attention to allowing God’s words to be your compass, your coming & going, your ups & downs; He fills your life & passion with His light, this opens the door to allow your work to become an opportunity of meditation giving Him honor in your service. The ultimate goal is for our lives to be an outward demonstration of an inner conviction.

When I dance, it’s in a sense meditation. Even on the days that I’m teaching to huge crowds or presenting at a major health & fitness event I zone out. I know that God has given me this ability & this gift and it’s an honor that He chose me. So each time I get a chance to display what He’s done, it’s my opportunity to show off Him and His awesomeness.

Dancing puts me in my zone. My zone is a personal praise. During one of my Zumba classes we danced to the song Happy by Pharrell. Afterward, a student came to me and asked if it was wrong that she started praising God right in the middle of our dancing & whooping. I laughed and said “nope cuz I got my praise on too”!!!

Meditation is simply ‘thinking on’ something. Doesn’t the scriptures in Philippians 4:8 tell us to think on or think about;

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8 NIV)

Adjust Your Focus

Stop picking yourself & your life apart. Look back at that passage.

ASSIGNMENT: Recognize and write down the TRUE, NOBLE, RIGHT, PURE, ADMIRABLE, EXCELLENT, PRAISEWORTHY; when you’re making this list, do not listen to the lies! Any thought that sneaks into your mind that makes you feel less than any of those descriptions, throw it in the fire and let it burn!!!!

FOCUS: Emotional eating

April is Stress Awareness Month and it got me to thinking about Emotional eating: aren’t we all emotional eaters?

We celebrate with food; we show condolences or support with food; we even gather around found just to show how much we need each other.

I wonder could it be that it’s not so much the food that’s the issue but our emotions.

What if we got control of our emotions. We can usually control the food we turn to during the emotional roller coaster; the food feels like a safety net or a gas pedal depending on which road you’re on. But what about the emotions. Don’t emotions come from a trigger of perception concerning the situation? Perceptions create our responses = EMOTIONS

What if our perceptions changed and we began to see things different. If even in the midst of a “this is way beyond anything I ever imagined”; we paused and let God filter our response.

Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places; and talents in unexpected people, and give me the GRACE to tell them so. – unknown

What if, in this new season we allowed God to help us grow right where we are. Allow Him to reach into our hearts and find those perceptions that send us full speed ahead on a collision with doubt, fear, anxiety, comparison, inadequacy…(feel free to fill in the blanks)

Do not [earnestly] remember the former things; neither consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:18, 19 AMP)

Our emotions are real but we cannot let them continue to feed us lies! We cannot continue to allow them to take us down dead-end roads!

Join us for the April Spring Cleaning F.O.C.U.S. (I’m not calling it a challenge, cuz it seems we’ve seen enough of those but we have yet to adjust our focus. It’s time to adjust our focus otherwise we’ll keep facing the same challenges!)
