Are we feeding faith or fear: Overcoming Anxiety

Have you ever dealt with anxiety?

I have. FOR YEARS!!! And here’s where I found the solution!

And I continue to use it whenever new issues, people, things, and problems try to overwhelm me!

And yes, you’ll need to continue to ‘work it out’ on a regular basis just like one visit to the gym won’t make you fit, one prayer won’t keep you well!

I started this devotional on the bible app and asked God to help me remove anything that’s a distraction from allowing Him access to my heart, (Psalm 139:23) my life and my mind. I’d love for you to join me.

The 21 Day Plan – We start TODAY!

I’m reading the @YouVersion plan ‘Living the Surrendered Life’. Check it out here:

No spirit of fear

Friends, Grace covers us and removes every fear, every anxious thought, every regret, every what if, every thought that tries to hold itself higher than the name of Christ, every doubt that says we can’t because we think we are either not enough or too much, every deception & lie that disguises itself as truth and tries to convince us that it’s too late or too soon. Grace is the qualifier. Grace IS the reflection of the cross & the Cross was enough!

For you, me & her and all the rest of them!

I’ve seen many searching for answers far & wide and I know we’re all searching for answers only you provide and you know just what we need before we say a word.

➕ And you call me deeper still… (Good Good Father Chris Tomlin)

““It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear.”

Doing vs Being – Reflection of the Resurrection

“Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.”

– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I might add to this brilliance,  that we must be (willing)  very intentional about not allowing our doing to become our being.

I wonder, if in our doing and our being what we’re reflecting.

I wonder…  are we a reflection of the resurrection.

A reflection of the mystery of the proof of a previously mention victory.

A reflection of the majesty of God’s ability to do far beyond we could ever imagine or think; because after all, His ways ARE higher!

A reflection of the mention of things seemingly random, often misunderstood, blurry, unlikely, impossible, too much and at the same time not enough.

A reflection of the greatness.

A reflection of the sacrifice.

A reflection of the true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, excellent and praise worthy.

A reflection of the courage from a heart that knows it is loved.

A reflection of the wounds.

A reflection of the broken.

A reflection of the made whole.

A reflection of the scars.

A reflection of the healing.

A reflection of the darkest valley.

A reflection of the laying down.

A reflection of the lacking nothing.

A reflection of the refreshing of the soul.

A reflection of the guidance on the right path.

A reflection of His name sake.

A reflection of no fear of evil.

A reflection of His presence, with us.

A reflection of His comfort.

A reflection of His story.

A reflection of His glory.

Reflection of the Resurrection: Doing what we’re becoming

Someone recently asked me how I got into the fitness industry. This came on the heels of a question in our Revelation Wellness training that asked “what truth have you believed that God revealed was actually a lie”… After I had my first child during college, I remember someone hinting that I would “end up just like my mother”… I’ve watched God bring this truth to the light of TRUTH from a space where Satan tried to use my “doing and being” against me and cause it to become the very thing He uses to reflect the resurrection!!!! (Romans 8)

The short story.

After suffering through an emotionally draining pregnancy & post partum depression (with my 3rd child) a woman named Kristine Bowman invited me to an aerobics class at a church. My 3 kids were just babies. (I had a chance to share the full testimony in an interview on the Faithful Wellness Podcast ) It’s been 13 years since that initial invitation to the aerobics class and my kids are now teenagers and one of them is a man-child… Y’all I’m still walking this road and I’m still doing & being who God is calling me to be!!! Glory be to God that He called me (qualified) in the middle of my (everyday) doing because He saw who He was calling me to be!

There’s a group of people that we are each designed to reach and we can either continue on that journey being our best selves; just a willing vessel;  serving and BEING fulfilled (not in our own strength but with whatever God fills us with) or we can hustle hard in hopes of DOING what’s ‘qualified’ and yet still not quite enough.

I think I’ll stick with being, and let God continue with the doing (in me)!

Some of you know I’m in the middle of a certification called Revelation Wellness; it’s a Christ centered faith THEN fitness counseling & wellness program that allows me to offer the fitness classes I’m already teaching in addition to a program called Weigh Less To Feed More.

The certification is a whole person approach to the dilemma many of the diets, programs and ’30 day whatever-the-quick-fix’ have created; the results on the outside are there but the person on the inside is still hurting and broken.

The training so far has been a beautiful tapestry of humility & service.

My training will finish in May at a one week retreat in Arizona with nearly 40 other ‘platoon recruits’. I’ve met some beautiful souls who are all uncovering the Truth of our reflection of the resurrection; I love that they call us platoons, it’s a nod to being enlisted in an army; a sisterhood/brotherhood trained to fight the battle for our wholeness. Friends if you’re in or near Ohio, you can experience a taste of this beautiful faith THEN fitness mission at Jesus At The Core.

DOING: the reflecting

“Don’t mistake activity with achievement.”
John Wooden

I recently launched a class called F.I.T. (inspired by the AFAA fitness model of Frequency Intensity and Time) but we’ve taken a deeper core conditioning approach and allowed God access to the purpose of our movement and our 3 target goals are FOCUS, INTENTION and TIME.  In 1 hour we set our spirit, soul and body on a mission to get FIT!

  • FOCUS: STRENGTH – A river can cut through rock not because of its power but its persistence
  • INTENTION: DISCIPLINE – No discipline feels good at first
  • TIME: NOW – because…

BEING: distractions & moving with(IN) fluence

It’s really easy for distraction to sneak in. Seriously y’all it’s REALLY sneaky. It comes in when the “DOING BECOMES OUR BEING”. Let me explain this.

DISCLAIMER: I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first took hold of me (Philippians 3:12)

Y’all, whether our doing is for our own self gratification, or our own subconscious checklist of the unspoken character of the “Good Christian” or it’s our ‘good thing’ that we do; when we become consumed with the getting-it-done it becomes who we are. It’s a slow fade. I’ve been meditating on Philippians 4:8 lately and realized that God could very well call us to a place of service and it’s where He needs us during that season but the service itself is not who we are, we are servants. God could call us to a place of humility & surrender and yet, still the surrendering is not who we are, we are still a servant, only now we are a humbled surrendered servant, standing and waiting for our instruction. In the doing and the waiting; our being is not defined by what we do; our being is our identity and to define ourselves by what we do would be to say that if the “doing” was to cease, then we would no longer be. Can I back track to that whisper someone dropped on me when I had my son, the one that hinted that I’d becoming just like my mom. That wasn’t a term of endearment, it was intended to imply that I was throwing away ‘my potential/future’ because I had gotten pregnant before marriage. I spent much of my college life and early adult hood trying to prove them wrong, and in my doing, I lost my being.

It wasn’t until I came to a place of surrender; admitting that I tried so hard to figure out who I was and failed miserably trying to un-do/hear/speak that which had been done/heard/spoken into my life that I began understanding that my being (Psalm 139) defines my doing (ability & potential) & the deceptive web became untangled.

It took me nearly 30 years to figure this out. Every year that my daughter has a birthday, I kinda celebrate my new found purpose. Friends God is calling us to the surrender. It’s in the surrender that we find ourselves FIT (focus, intention and time) for the calling (doing).

Friends He calls you His BELOVED. BE LOVED. This is where we find our being. This is where we find ourselves the reflection of the resurrection.

Give your best self as a gift for Christmas

Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. 1 Corinthians 13:12

What if the greatest gift we could give is our best REFRESHED selves?

I’m not going to pretend that buying the perfect present doesn’t make me giddy. Whether it’s a birthday, wedding, just because or Christmas I think giving gifts is one of my love languages. I like taking the time to consider the persons lifestyle, quirks, the conversations we’ve had, their needs, hinted-at-wants and shameless plugs. I thoroughly enjoy watching the expression on their faces when they realize that I paid attention to them. That I took notice of the thing they really wanted. I love knowing that God gave me the ability and opportunity to be that blessing.

One thing I’ve noticed recently is that even with my best made plans and efforts, the best gifts aren’t received if the person giving or receiving isn’t their best. Sometimes the ‘gift’ isn’t what’s packaged and tied up with a bow, it’s the giver and they spirit behind the giving.

If the spirit or intention behind the giver or the receiver isn’t well or at peace; the gift often goes unnoticed.

Do not fear your weakness for it is the stage on which My Power and Glory perform most brilliantly – Jesus Calling

“Everything in the world is about to be wrapped up, so take nothing for granted. Stay wide-awake in prayer. Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless—cheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s hearty help. That way, God’s bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he’ll get all the credit as the One mighty in everything—encores to the end of time. Oh, yes!”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4:7-11‬ ‭MSG‬‬

I was reading in the Make Room For Advent devotional “God invited Mary to carry the Hope of the World in her small womb. Her answer was completely about God. She partners with God! God asks us to carry Jesus to our neighbors, in our words, our witness and our lives. Mary agreed to carry the Savior, aware that she could lose everything in the process. As we accept the invitation to carry Jesus in our hearts, words and lived; we will find that He provides all we need in him. All we need is to say yes.

Mary was brave.

Yesterday as I sat in the chiropractor’s office, trying to take my mind off of the pain & pressure on my neck and head; hoping for relief; I could only turn my thoughts toward PARTNERING with God in this process.

His word promises that if we lean in toward Him He leans in toward us. (James 4:8) He invites us to partner in every arena of our lives & He will supply all of our needs, in Him. (Matthew 6:33)

Today, in the midst of a nauseating gazillion ton elephant sitting on my neck pain; I’m making room for Jesus to invade me!!!

My thoughts, as much as I want to plan ahead, aren’t even projecting toward tomorrow let alone making goal lists for next year, I need Jesus today

I’m not afraid to stand with Him in His Truth that He is my ever present help. God is our safe place and our strength. He is always our help when we are in trouble. (Psalm 46:1)

But here’s the thing friends. If He’s going to help me/us where I/we need Him I/we must be willing to tell Him EXACTLY where I am!

And right now, I’m here, giving my best brave; albeit desperate; waiting for the Wonderful Counselor (His help) and Prince of peace!

The past few days I’ve cried tears of pain, desperation, fear, frustration and a few “why me God”. I know there’s a purpose for the process and that process might bring pain. Did God bring the pain, ABSOLUTELY NOT, and what too often we fail to recognize is that we have a very real enemy, Satan, who wants nothing more than to see us shift our focus on what he has brought into our lives as a road block. But let me tell you, what the devil meant for harm, God will ALWAYS use for our good and His glory…for those who are called according to HIS PURPOSE!!!

You Are Called

You are chosen, blameless, ransomed, destined & restored!!!! “Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people—free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ, a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:7-10‬ ‭MSG‬

Laughter is medicine for the soul

I was given the opportunity to review this collection of DVDs by Christian comedien Chonds Pierce and they couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. My soul needs medicine! My soul needs laughter!

“I share about my pain, struggles through life, sharing the same stories. I don’t know if that makes me brave, but it makes me blessed. Blessed to be a part of a sisterhood. This is the bravest thing I’ve ever done.”

Preparation for brave

You’re in a battle to own & boldly live out your freedom and the world; full of its temptations wants to make you believe that you never overcame those things that have held you back or held you captive! DECLARE YOUR FREEDOM SISTER!!!

If you ever intend to win any battle you have to realize that it does require some training and also requires that you have on your FULL ARMOR and it also requires that you know the battle plan!!!!

Any soldier that marches into enemy territory unarmed, unprotected, unaware… Foolish!
But to the one who goes in with orders, cocked and loaded, with a battalion of troops surrounding him KNOWS that the victory is his!!!

Yes you’re still in a battle, maybe even daily. A battle to declare you ARE CHOSEN by God to do that thing only you can do and Satan wants nothing more than to declare you either aren’t the one or that you’ve been defeated.

You’re in a battle to define the standard of excellence, beauty and confidence. We will continuously be overwhelmed by what the world claims is the best of the best, the top 10 and who deserves the crown based on its rules but God already declared you royalty! He already decided you are wonderfully made! He already breathed into your lungs and declare THIS IS GOOD!!!

Yes it’s a battle, but it’s not yours to fight; orders might come from the Lord but it is yours to win! He will allow you to live in the victory as long as you always remember to give Him the glory.

A friend blessed my brave with these words:

The thing is, you don’t need to fight with, in, or against (as he’s trying to get you to) your body. You are already victorious because Christ went before you. Just hold onto the Sword of the Spirit as your comfort and wield it as your weapon.

PUT ON YOUR FULL ARMOUR! Head to toe you must be guarded!

Where are you exposed?

Where’s your head?  (Helmet)

Where’s your heart? (Breastplate)

Where’s your faith? (Shield)

What’s in your hands? (Sword/God’sWord)

What’s your truth? What are you believing? (Belt)

Where are you headed? Which direction have you been going/following? (Feet)

Get honest… I want to know. You can’t get where you’re supposed to be going until you are willing to admit where you are…

(re)Defining You: Seeing God In Everything

Like many women, I’d struggled with a flawed perception of myself. My sense of identity and worth were dependent on the wrong things… If I sensed I wasn’t measuring up, I kicked into either withdrawl mode or fix-it mode. – Lysa Terkeurst Made To Crave

My gym, my office, my new sanctuary, my quiet time space. My little blessing this side of heaven!!! I remember when my husband and I were just dating (nearly 18 years ago) and he asked me what I wanted in life. I told him I didn’t want much, just not to live in the ghetto or projects anymore. I told him I just didn’t want to argue about stupid stuff or walk on eggshells afraid to breathe because it might disturb someone or something. I told him I just wanted to know that we wouldn’t have to fear getting our lights turned off or where our next meal was coming from. I told him I wanted to know that whoever I married would accept me for me, love me unconditionally and grow old with me, to work through the hard stuff but love big and laugh and enjoy life to the fullest.

We have this life. This blessed life, modestly amazing, beautiful, full of hope & Christ’s love. We GET TO move everyday – that’s God’s grace. He loves me enough to pull me out of every funk I put myself in – BECAUSE He loves me too much to leave me. I have the freedom to spend time with my kids, literally move to the rhythm of grace touching hearts and souls sharing this God stuff with the world. I GET TO enjoy life. I choose to embrace the valley detours & the mountaintops as transformations!

Setting my #FOCUS to live each day as a broken-made-beautiful vessel; carrying the love & light of Christ as proof that He heard beyond my prayers; that He chose me to be a conduit to connect others to His promise of redemption and reconciliation which is ready to be poured into every soul that will receive it!

Be A Difference Maker.

This morning I heard the new #NeedToBreathe song “Difference Maker” & my heart screamed out with such freedom.

I want to be a difference maker, I don’t wanna just be inspiring. I want to be one of those moving and being not just doing & talking.

When the lights go out & no one sees I want my light to still be on. I don’t want to just thump my bible, quoting scripture I want my life to be a living breathing example that Jesus is alive and He lives in me and my hands are His, my work is His work, my words are breathed on by Him!

I want to be the one defeating death, feeding faith, starving doubt and living the truth that God calls me friend! I will not be one of those who shrinks back (Hebrews 10:39) at the first sign of adversity but I will #shieldup and #BeBrave I just want to speak & live from my heart which hasn’t always been easy for me.

I’ve found so much freedom in Christ recently and it’s like the caged bird is now free! I am a work in progress, clay in the potters hand!

Without comparison I am yielding to the truth of Philippians 2:13 ⚓️ for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, (‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭13-15‬ ESV)

Food can fill our stomachs but never our souls. Possessions can fill our houses but never our hearts. Sex can fill our nights but never our hunger for love. Children can fill our days but never our identities. Jesus wants us to know only He can fill us and truly satisfy us. – Made To Crave Growing Closer To God

The formula for doing something different?

Easy -to – do Fitness + Common-Sense Nutrition + Real-Accountability & Support = YOUR BEST/Success.

This particular season I used the PiYo program and plant based protein. The PiYo program prides itself on being a well rounded fitness plan that helps you carve an intensely defined physique—without jumps, without weights, and without straining your joints. Using your body weight, you’ll perform low-impact, high-intensity movements inspired by Pilates and yoga.

The result? Long, lean muscles, a firm backside, and tight, flat, tummy. With PiYo, you’ll work every single muscle to stabilize, stretch, and strengthen every inch of your body. And since Chalene Johnson cranked up the speed and the fun, you’ll burn crazy calories while you’re at it.

Ready to move in the direction of your new focus?

Seasons come & seasons go but His word remains!

God is in EVERYTHING!!!

Let’s not just talk about let’s move like we believe it! Join me & my sisters at the God In Everything women’s conference as we embrace this truth and anchor our souls!

Be fearless

FOCUS: Fearless vs. fear less.

 “Success results as much from what we don’t choose to do as it does from what we choose to do.” {God’s Little Devotional Book on Success}

Would you say that you’re fearless? Or would you say that you fear less?  There’s a difference. Wait for it • • •

Fearless requires DOING whatever it takes to have courage, strength, tenacity, determination … Fear less requires BEING courageous, strong, tenacious, determined. The key is doing vs being. We need both. There’s certain things in my life that make me feel FEARLESS because my confidence in that area moves me. There are other things in my life that make me FEAR LESS because my confidence moves me.

To be fearless says I’ve decided that whatever this is in front of me God has strategically placed in my life to develop something in me; so I know through Him I am fully capable to do it, so I’ll move. To fear less says I’ve decided that whatever this is in front me God has strategically placed in my life because He sees something in me so I will move forward. FEARLESS is not us proving that we have no fear; it’s us deciding how & when we move to face it.

Let’s hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, because the one who made the promises is reliable. And let us consider each other carefully for the purpose of sparking love and good deeds.
