If you’re just joining us here, we’ve been talking about getting back to basics and finding out the truth of what we really need. The purpose of this BACK TO BASICS FOCUS honestly, is an open discussion of our habits, our truths and our beliefs concerning how to eat, pray and live.


Today we’re talking about being wrecked & weak. Because let’s face it. At some point we are/were wrecked and weak.





When we make a decision to allow God to lead our lives.

When we make a decision to live intentionally focused on the things that matter to us most.

When we make a decision to respond to life’s unexpected ‘wrecks’ rather than react to them.

When we make a decision to allow peace to be our umpire.

When we make a decision to stand up & stand out rather than strive to fit in.

We might just look like we’re lost or we’ve flat out lost our minds. (*actually I’d like to be bold enough to suggest that might be the solution according to Romans 12)

I have found myself wandering into ‘the great unknown’ and while the outsider looking in might think it looks a little unsafe or uncertain, the faith that God has promised to lead me and guide me and show me a path that leads to His plan; I go. Not always willingly and certain not just a walk in the park. AND THIS IS WHERE WE FIND THE WEAKNESS!

2 Corinthians 12:9-11The Voice (VOICE)

9 and finally He said to me, “My grace is enough to cover and sustain you. My power is made perfect in weakness.” So ask me about my thorn, inquire about my weaknesses, and I will gladly go on and on—I would rather stake my claim in these and have the power of the Anointed One at home within me. 10 I am at peace and even take pleasure in any weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and afflictions for the sake of the Anointed because when I am at my weakest, He makes me strong.

I spent a few hours last night flipping through the pages of my journals from last year. I literally documented every hour of every day for 6 months trying to make sense of my life unraveling. I can’t even really wrap my brain around 2014. Today I had to ask God, as painful & tragic as the year was for my family, why does it feel like it all happened three years ago; not just last year.

The only thing He confirmed is that no weapon formed against me will prosper and that He was there the whole time.
Sometimes life tries to make you feel like you’re falling apart and it leaves you there to pick up the pieces. But when God steps in He literally starts to *take* things apart so that He can make the broken things beautiful. #weaknessrevealed


A life devoted to things is a dead life, a stump, a God-shaped life is a flourishing tree.

Can weakness be a strength?

If we focus on our strengths, do you think we getting stronger or actually getting weaker and potentially starting to compromise?

If you had to pinpoint 3 strengths what would they be? What about 3 weaknesses?


If we’re in the gym and we only focus on the muscles that we know how to train, what benefit do we get from that?

Did you know that we can overtrain our bodies and overuse certain muscles which could result in an injury? A torn hamstring proved that to me and THAT WAS NOT FUN!!! Not to mention, we’ll quickly find ourselves out of balance. Getting stronger, often times means unlearning some of the habits we’ve formed like doing too much or not enough cardio. Or working on the “show muscles” but neglecting the ones that are rarely seen or noticed.

Think about your core. I was telling someone the other day that at one point I had a crazy amount of core strength. Never had a six pack, but had this depth of core muscle tone that my OBGYN assured me during my second pregnancy that I wouldn’t have a problem bouncing back because the muscle tone was so dense. I went with that and trusted that I didn’t need to do much during the pregnancy.

Somewhere, even in the training, dancing and moving I do on a consistent basis, I’ve lost my core strength. I can’t pinpoint how or where, but I know it’s not there like it use to be. When core strength is compromised your balance is affected, and eventually your walking, sitting, standing and lifting are impacted; so much so that your basic movement starts trying to figure out how to get it done by any means necessary.

At the very core of who you are, if you aren’t identifying what might be weak, and only focusing on what’s really strong, you begin to compromise and could result in a painful injury (hurts, resentments, rejection, fear, anxiety, pride, disappointment, etc).  Pride can often get in the way of strengthening the weak places. But God promises that He honors the humble. Y’all this is the first opportunity to allowing a weakness to become your strength.

  • PRIDE: takes credit for your accomplishments
    • CONFIDENCE: humbly acknowledges God’s work in you

James 1:23-24 If some fail to do what God requires, it’s as if they forget the word as soon as they hear it. One minute they look in the mirror, and the next they forget who they are and what they look like. 25 However, it is possible to open your eyes and take in the beautiful, perfect truth found in God’s law of liberty and live by it. If you pursue that path and actually do what God has commanded, then you will avoid the many distractions that lead to an amnesia of all true things and you will be blessed. (The VOICE)

Sometimes we look in the mirror and we see one thing but God sees something totally different. Over the next several days we’ll look at how we are ‘shaped’, what we need to work on, how we get stronger and the things we might need to get rid of so that we are moving the way we are designed to move.

First understand that we’ll be doing this from the CORE: from the inside out! My goal is to always make sure this is about helping you to get inneractive!
